Sapa is located at the foothills of Vietnam’s northern mountain range. It is a mountainous district of Lao Cai province. Sapa is a modest and quiet land but it hides many wonders of nature. Engulfing in clouds, Sapa is – a magical area. Its weather is cool and fresh, creating diverse nuances. Its average temperature is from 15° C to 18 ° C. The rainy season is from May to August. The dry season in Sapa lasts from January to June. The coldest months are January and February. The most excellent weather is from March.

Sa Pa name is originated in Mandarin. Sa is called “Pả”, “Sa” means sand and “Pả” is beach, in Mandarin.  From two words “Sa Pả”, Westerners often pronounce with no sign, so it is changed into Sa Pa.

Sa Pa has Phan Si Pang peak (3.143m) on the Hoang Lien Son range. The mountain range was named after a pharmaceutical tree, Hoang Lien Son.
Sapa was originally home to the Black Hmong ethnic minorities. With the growth of tourism, many of the hill tribes have moved away from Sapa’s city centre into the surrounding hill country. Weavings and artwork are often sold at main market by ethnic minorities.

Sapa with more than 57 motels and hotels (including 3-4 stars hotels), it welcomes thousands of domestic and international visitors there annually. Tourism is really a potential sector of Sapa. It contributes to reduce poverty rate from 70% in 1992 down to 22% in 2000.

Night 1: Be escorted to the railway station by HE staff for boarding the train to travel up Lao Cai city.

Day 1: Lao Cai – Sapa - Cat Cat and Sin Chai villages (B)

5:00 am: Arrives in Lao Cai in the early morning, our driver or tour guide with the sign of your name will welcome you. You will be driven to Sa Pa in about 1 hour. Once you arrive, a morning shower will be offered and later on breakfast is served. The new day will be started 9:00 with the visit to Cat Cat  and Sin Chai villages down in  Muong Hoa valley. Enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful valley towards Fansipan – highest peak in Vietnam and Indochina. Trek through the villages of Black H’mong ethnic minority to learn the way people weaving and embroidering their clothes, keep going down to enjoy colourful rice paddy fields and the interesting waterfall. Trek back to Sa Pa. In the afternoon free time to discover Sa Pa town and market.

Night 2 : Overnight in hotel in Town 

Day 2: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van villages – Homestay (B/L/D)

Enjoy the breakfast then check out.  Around 9:00 Trek from Sapa towards Muong Hoa valley where you can admire the magnificent landscapes. Downhill trekking to visit Lao Chai and Ta Van villages home of Black H’mong and Dzay people. Then enjoy the picnic lunch. Once arriving Dzay family, refresh by a local cup of tea and start to learn the culture, custom and religion by chatting with them.
Later on, attending the cooking to make dinner. Dinner and overnight here.

Night 3: Overnight at local Dzay family 

Day 3: Tavan – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa – Lao Cai station (B)

Wake up with the locals in the sound of pigs, chickens and the family dogs. The family is already on their feet preparing your breakfast. After breakfast, say good bye to the family and trek through a bamboo forest to Giang Ta Chai where you the Red Dzao are living. Meet and talk with people to learn more about their daily life, customs and traditions. Pass over the Cau May Bridge then around 12:00 get back to Sapa Town. Shopping around or free to visit around the town (Dragon mount, Orchid garden…)
Leave the town for Lao Cai railway station at around 16:30 pm. Then boarding a night train back to Hanoi.

Night 4 : Night train back to Hanoi 

Day 4: Hanoi
The train arrives at Hanoi in the early morning, Hanoi Elegance Hotel staff will pick you up, and escort you back to the hotel (optional)
